GP-AA499R Filter, Sediment Bowl

$0.00

This is the sediment bowl filter used on numerous John Deere model two cylinders. This filter was originally designed for all fuel applications and was mated by its 1/4" MPT outlet to the 3 way valve. An operator could shut off fuel with this filter or the 3 way valve with this set up. The original valve used a cast iron body and the valve operation was sealed by packing and operated against a seat. Aside from the corrosion issues, this design was prone to internal and external leakage. The 3 way valve also suffered similar design weaknesses.

Our filter is completely redesigned. this filter is constructed of 5 materials, none which can rust. We use BRASS for the body. We use STAINLESS STEEL for the internal spring, screens and bail. We use TEFLON for the bowl nut cushion and the stem "packing". We use the standard heavy GLASS sediment bowl, no plastic. Last and most important is the correct VITON RUBBER compound for the seat washer and bowl gasket. Our Viton rubber compound is effective to withstand the destructive effects of ethanol based fuel and in sealing the sediment bowl as it does not develop a "memory" as cork and cork blends do. The stainless steel screen we use is 100 mesh. The first screen keeps rust and dirt isolated in the main fuel tank. Anything that passes by that screen enters freely into the filter where it settles in the bowl. The fuel then passes through the second screen where this filtered fuel is guaranteed to travel to and through the carburetor without clogging critical passages. Our bowl screen is fully hemmed to insure only filtered fuel may pass. The inner hem of this screen is important as it seals the screen wire ends and acts as a metal "crush" seal for the operating valve assembly. The outer hem fits in the two step glass bowl lip where the Viton rubber bowl gasket completes the sealing process and provides constant tension on the bail, preventing leaks. The original cork gasket does this as well until it gets hard and brittle.

Our redesigned valve action works by a cam action which allows 1/4 turn operation under spring loading. This totally eliminates the galling of turning metal against a seat. The pliable Viton rubber compresses under spring pressure in our design making a positive seal against fuel internal leakage. The brass stem passes through a machined Teflon seal packing. Teflon has natural "lubricity". By maintaining tight tolerances when machining this material, it takes very little compression to " squeeze" the Teflon against the stem. This allows repeated movement of the stem with no loosening of the packing and consequent external leakage of fuel. Teflon does all this and allows us to use the original "dog bone" handle design because of its natural lubricity.

The bail we use is stainless steel which will not rust or corrode over its lifetime. The brass cogwheel with its mated Teflon washer allows easy finger tensioning of the Viton bowl gasket which also eliminates fuel leakage around the glass bowl or cracking the bowl.

Our brass body eliminates internal and external rusting issues. Accurately cast and machined in the USA, the top perimeter proudly proclaims where this is made. Marvel Schebler is cast in the body and is proprietary to this part. There are filters made by others that "look" like this filter. WHEN, not IF they fail, unwitting users may associate our filter to this problem. If it does not have Marvel Schebler on the body, then the problem is not ours. If our filter should fail by fault of construction, we want to know and will replace or repair that filter.

John Deere used this filter in gas only applications with an adapter. We currently offer a 1/4" to 1/8" straight adapter to use with gas only operation. We are working on making the correct elbow fitting to go from 1/4" to fuel (B2526R). Most of the current aftermarket fuel filters using the 1/8" outlet ( AA4331R) suffer all the deficiencies of the original AA499R filters.

In summation, our sediment bowl filter is an effort to offer products that perform and look as close as possible to the original. If improvements can be done in design or material, we do that. To compare this product and our other products to the choices available, we get beat by only one variable and that is price. The price one pays for what we offer is made up by the superior attention to detail and performance of the product. In the case of this filter, every owner knows that fuel flows by gravity and is pretty much at the highest part of the tractor. Everything, the filter, the hot manifold, the labor and material intense paint job, the carburetor, the oil filled maincase, is below. Do you really want a $30 dollar fuel filter with all the described deficiencies second in line from the fuel tank over all that? Please contact us if there are any questions about this filter or the other parts we sell for your JOHN DEERE TWO CYLINDER tractor.
